The system suggests that slow reactive aggregates have a different reaction mechanism than fast reactive aggregates, occurring in five stages. Very fast reactive aggregates, including argillaceous dolomitic limestone, are not recommended for use in concrete without special precautions, while precautionary measures are suggested for fast and slow reactive ASR.
