The Grain and Graze program's biodiversity component aims to document how mixed farming systems support native biodiversity across Australia and determine how biodiversity supports these systems. The project will collect data on vegetation, invertebrates, birds, and soil health from autumn 2006 to spring 2007, with bird surveys in summer 2008. The results will be useful to farmers, regional catchment authorities, land managers, and researchers, and will be fed back to farmers through regional officers and industry magazines. The project aims to clarify the role of land use and geographical features in determining biodiversity in mixed farming systems.
