Summary

Research suggests COVID-19 and containment measures have negative consequences, causing stress. A survey of 1565 individuals in Switzerland during lockdown found increased stress levels, particularly among those who disagreed with containment measures or saw no positive aspects in the crisis. A path analysis revealed that fear of the disease, worries about individual, social, and economic consequences, and infection rates contribute to stress, while positive thinking and perceived support mitigate stress. Authorities should explain measures clearly, highlight positive aspects, address worries, and facilitate support to prevent stress.
