INTRINSICALLY UNSTRUCTURED PROTEINS REGULATING PHOTOSYNTHETIC ENZYMES THROUGH PROTEIN-PROTEIN INTERACTIONS" by Lucia Marri, under the supervision of Prof. Paolo Bernardo Trost and coordination of Prof. Vincenzo Scarlato, focuses on the role of intrinsically unstructured proteins (IUPs), specifically CP12, in regulating photosynthetic enzymes through protein-protein interactions. The research explores the redox regulation of the Calvin-Benson cycle, the structure and function of IUPs, and the specific role of CP12 in forming supramolecular complexes with glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and phosphoribulokinase (PRK). The thesis is divided into five chapters, covering topics such as the reductive pentose phosphate cycle, light-regulation of photosynthetic GAPDH, co-ordinated gene expression, reconstitution and properties of the recombinant GAPDH/CP12/PRK supramolecular complex, and the spontaneous assembly of photosynthetic supramolecular complexes mediated by CP12. The research aims to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of photosynthetic enzymes and the role of IUPs in this process.
