Summary

The study evaluated the effect of rock phosphate application on root growth, N and P uptake in Bambara groundnut landraces. Two landraces, Kangiwa brown and Kaaro, were treated with four rock phosphate levels (0, 20, 40, and 60 kg P2O5 ha-1). The results showed that Kaaro landrace had higher root length, volume, surface area, and dry weight than Kangiwa brown. Application of 40 kg P2O5 ha-1 was optimum for root volume and dry weight, while 20 kg P2O5 ha-1 was optimum for plant dry weight, N, P, and ash contents. The study suggests that rock phosphate can serve as an alternative source of P for Bambara groundnut production, with 20 kg P2O5 ha-1 being the optimum level for N and P uptake.
