Summary

A novel architecture for all-optical add-drop multiplexing of OFDM signals is proposed, using a three-branch interferometer structure and optical FFT/i-FFT filtering. The scheme allows for the removal and addition of sub-channels within an OFDM super-channel without optoelectronic conversion or digital signal processing. Numerical simulations demonstrate the performance of the architecture, with results showing a sensitivity penalty of less than 0.2 dB for switching windows below 17 psec. The proposed scheme enables all-optical bypassing and is scalable to high super-channel capacities.
