Summary

A preliminary study on the selection of self-heating elements in self-heating pads was conducted to discover the best chemical composition of Calcium Oxide with Sodium Chloride for re-heating food. The study found that a combination of 70g of Calcium Oxide with 10g of NaCl in 100ml of water exhibited the highest temperature of 105°C, with a time sustained at the highest temperature of 1 minute and a rise time of 5 minutes. The study aimed to develop a self-heating pack with characteristics of high final temperature, low duration to rise, and long duration to sustain at the highest temperature. The innovation of self-heating food packaging is useful for travel, military operations, and natural disasters, and has been researched and developed for over 50 years.
