Summary

Georg Pistotnik from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics introduced stochastics into simulating convective precipitation events in the Bucklige Welt region of Eastern Austria. The study used a 5-year dataset from 2003 to 2007, with a high-resolution analysis and nowcasting system, to extract 245 convection days and almost 1600 individual storm events. Distributions were derived for characteristic parameters, including storm motion, lifetime, and intensity, which were then used to drive a random generator to simulate convective precipitation events. The simulated events can provide valuable information for hydrological models and assessing torrent hazard in the region.
