Summary

The Iceland Scotland Overflow Water (ISOW) forms in the Nordic Seas, enters the eastern North Atlantic subpolar gyre, and spreads southward into the North Atlantic, with three identified pathways: across the Reykjanes Ridge, through the Charlie Gibbs Fracture Zone, and southward along the eastern flank of the Mid Atlantic Ridge (MAR). This study uses Eulerian and Lagrangian observations, along with modeling output, to describe ISOW pathways and their variability, distinguishing itself from past studies by combining current meter data, eddy-resolving RAFOS float data, and 1/12◦FLAME modeling output.
