Summary

Researchers propose measuring neutron capture cross sections of gallium isotopes 69Ga and 71Ga at the n_TOF facility to improve understanding of the astrophysical slow neutron capture process (s-process), which produces about half of the elements heavier than iron. The proposed measurement will cover the full energy range from 25 meV to 500 keV, addressing the scarcity of data for these reactions. Accurate cross section data are needed to predict the abundances of gallium and other elements produced by the weak s-process. The experiment will use the C6D6 detection setup and require 4.0×10^18 protons on target.
