Summary

The next generation of geostationary satellites, including Himawari-8, GOES-R, and Meteosat Third Generation, offers improved spectral, spatial, and temporal resolution. Himawari-8's Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) provides 2.5-minute rapid scan data over four mesoscale domains, while GOES-R will operate in "Mode 3" or "Flex Mode" with 15-minute full disk scans, 5-minute CONUS scans, and two moveable mesoscale domains for 1-minute data.
