Summary

The existence and nonexistence of ground state solutions to a nonlinear Schrödinger equation on metric graphs are considered. For compact metric graphs, a positive ground state solution exists, and if the total length is sufficiently small, the solution is a constant state. For non-compact metric graphs, the existence of ground state solutions depends on the topological structure, and the ground state energy may or may not be attained. The paper investigates these questions for star graphs with one central vertex and provides results on the existence and uniqueness of ground state solutions.
