Rosenfeld's achievements include showing primary phase space constraints arise from local Lagrangian symmetries, exploiting symmetry transformation properties to construct the constrained Hamiltonian, and deriving secondary constraints. His work was motivated by Wolfgang Pauli and included a general relativistic example of Einstein-Maxwell-Dirac theory, although he didn't fully apply his findings to this example. Many of Rosenfeld's discoveries were re-developed or re-discovered by others two decades later, without attribution to him.
