Summary

An improved Fortran program for calculating single particle energy levels and wave functions in nuclear structure calculations has been developed. The program is designed to be used as a subroutine in larger nuclear structure calculation programs but can also be used separately. Improvements over the previous program include a new method for calculating wave functions, a first-order correction to the starting conditions, the use of a large step size until convergence is nearly reached, and a correction to a small error in the Kutta-Runge integration procedure. The program is approximately five times faster than the previous version and provides an accuracy of 0.01% in energy level values. The program calculates the Woods-Saxon real potential well, including a spin-orbit term, and numerically integrates the wave function from zero to a matching radius and from a maximum radius back to the matching radius for bound states. The program also calculates the logarithmic derivatives and provides an automatic search procedure to find the energy for which the "inside" and "outside" logarithmic derivatives match. The program can be run in three alternative modes, including bound state and continuum state calculations.
