- Nighttime I2 sea-air flux was insufficient to explain observed daytime IO levels.
- Iodocarbon measurements were also insufficient to explain daytime IO levels.
- An unknown daytime source of gas phase inorganic iodine is implied.
- Carpenter et al. (2013) proposed sea surface emissions of HOI could account for both nighttime I2 and daytime IO observations.
- Significance: Iodine chemistry impacts climate, human health, and nutrient availability. Understanding its sources and cycling is crucial.
