Summary

A study investigated ionospheric disturbances associated with the 21 February 2008 Svalbard earthquake using the EISCAT Svalbard radar (ESR). The earthquake had a moment magnitude of 6.0 and occurred during the International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008. The ESR provided continuous measurements of electron density, electron temperature, ion temperature, and vertical ion velocity at various altitudes. The study focused on searching for signatures in the D-layer electron density and VLF signals. The results will be used to test theories on the cause of ionospheric signatures associated with earthquakes, including enhanced radon emission and acoustic gravity waves.
