Summary

A project in North Carolina compared extension program delivery strategies for small and part-time farmers, using person-to-person and self-directed methods. Findings indicated that self-directed methods, such as audiocassettes, fact sheets, and videocassettes, were preferred over person-to-person methods, like farm visits and meetings. The project aimed to determine the effectiveness of these methods in bringing about knowledge change and found that nonperson-to-person methods were as effective as person-to-person methods. The study involved 32 farmers who received educational information through various delivery methods and reported positive reception of self-directed methods.
