## Laboratory Accreditation Body Expert Committee Meeting Summary - August 2, 2021

The Laboratory Accreditation Body (LAB) Expert Committee met virtually on August 2, 2021 at 10:30 am PDT to discuss the draft standard V2M1 and related issues.

Key Discussion Points:

V2M1 Draft Standard: The meeting focused on sections 6.1.2.9.1 (Assessor Competency) and 6.1.2.9.2 (Assessor Training).
 Assessor Competency:
The committee considered language regarding assessor competency, balancing the ISO 17011:2017 requirements with suggestions for allowing "commensurate experience" in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
 A compromise was reached, allowing for AB consideration of "commensurate experience" while addressing concerns about ensuring competent assessors.
Assessor Training:
The current draft standard language regarding assessor training was reviewed and discussed.
It was agreed that the language should clarify that assessors need to be trained on how to assess specific technical disciplines, not necessarily on performing the work itself.
 Suggestions were made to remove references to "TNI" courses and emphasize that assessors must receive appropriate assessment-focused training.
Next Steps:

The committee will review comments on V2M1 and determine whether they are persuasive or non-persuasive at a later date.
The Competency Task Force's recommendations for Technical Manager competency requirements will be considered.
 A Basic Assessor course is scheduled for late August.

The next teleconference meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 1:00 pm Eastern Time.
