Summary

TotalFinaElf tested multiphase meter prototypes from 1991 to 1996 and has been using them since 1997 for well and field metering, with several units operating onshore and offshore, including subsea deployments. Two operational experiences are described, including a four-year experience with a Fluenta MPFM 1900VI meter from 1997 to 2001, which was successfully operated without major problems, and a step towards standardization in offshore West Africa from 1998 to 2000, where six multiphase meters were installed on wellhead platforms for well testing and field metering.
