Summary

Degradation causes a background of space charges, introducing deep traps for one carrier type, influencing decay kinetics of photoinduced polarons. A kinetic scheme is given, assuming degradation-induced defects in the donor phase acting as acceptors for electrons. The rate equation for negative polarons is derived, accounting for dispersive effects with a polynomial ansatz for the recombination coefficient. The experimentally obtained differential absorption is related to polaron concentration via the Beer-Lambert law. A spectroscopic recombination rate constant and generation term are defined, and the absorption caused by "background polarons" is calculated. The final equation is solved numerically, and device parameters are obtained by fitting the calculated transient absorption profile to the experimental one. Simulations show distinct long-time behaviors for variation of parameters, allowing for the determination of device parameters at each degradation level.
