Summary

A new method for determining plastic deformation properties at high strain rates has been developed, addressing the challenge of system ringing in conventional servo-hydraulic tensile testing machines. A specially designed tensile sample with an additional elastic area and a minor plastic deformation area absorbs elastic vibrations, allowing for precise force measurement without ringing effects. The sample design enables the determination of plastic deformation behavior for a wide range of strain rates (0.0001-1000/s). A simplified beam model and analytical formulations were established to explain the functionality and physical background of the new sample, and verifications showed good predictions of sample geometry using this model.
