Summary

Researchers investigate optical forces in the time domain, demonstrating that a plane wave causes an optical pressure that fluctuates at optical frequency on a physical object. For two-wave illumination with slightly different frequencies, the optical force acquires a component at the beating frequency. Analytical expressions for the optical force dynamics are presented, establishing a link between average and transient optical forces. The force oscillates at the frequency of the beating, which can be set within the kHz range, and the peak force achieved is two times stronger than the average one.
