He joined the Beagle expedition in 1831 as a naturalist and spent four years and ten months traveling to various countries, collecting specimens, and making observations. After his return, he published several works, including "A Journal of Researches into the Geology and Natural History of the Various Countries visited by H.M.S. Beagle" and "The Zoology of the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle". His later works included "On the Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs", "Geologic Observations on Volcanic Islands", and "Geological Observations on South America". Darwin's contributions to science were widely recognized, and he was praised by his peers, including Sir Charles Lyell, for his clear exposition of facts and bold theories.
