The objective of this research was to develop a concept for treating ammonia water from sugar factories to allow for its reuse or safe discharge into surface waters. Tests were conducted using a sprayed slag bed, and the results were used to determine the requirements and technological parameters for effective ammonia water treatment. A concept for ammonia water treatment using a sprayed biological bed was developed, and guidelines for designing a small-scale technical device were created. The process involves nitrification and denitrification, where ammonia is converted into nitrate and then reduced to nitrogen gas, which is released into the atmosphere. The research aimed to find a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method for removing nitrogen from ammonia water, as current methods are often expensive and complicated.
