Summary

Research Objects (ROs) are semantic aggregations of related scientific resources, annotations, and research context, providing a means to refer to a bundle of research artifacts and associate human and machine-readable metadata. A suite of APIs for RO management has been specified and implemented, following a resource-oriented approach in line with Linked Data and REST principles. The two main APIs are the RO API, for creating and maintaining ROs, and the RO evolution API, for changing the lifecycle stage of ROs and retrieving their evolution provenance. These APIs have been implemented in services like ROHub, a digital library for ROs, and provide a basis for interoperability between implementations.
