Summary

A systematic review and meta-analysis of published research data on COVID-19 infection-fatality rates estimated the infection-fatality rate (IFR) of COVID-19 to be 0.75% (0.49-1.01%) across populations, based on 13 estimates from a range of countries, published between February and April 2020. However, significant heterogeneity (p<0.001) makes it difficult to determine if this represents the 'true' point estimate, and more research on age-stratified IFR is needed to inform policy-making.
