Summary

Researchers propose a novel method, Time-sensitive Rooted-PageRank (T-RPR), to detect hierarchical social relationships in a network by exploiting interaction patterns between members over time. T-RPR builds upon Rooted-PageRank and captures the dynamics of the interaction network structure. Experiments on two real datasets, the Enron e-mail network and a co-authorship network, demonstrate T-RPR's superiority over a recent competitor method, detecting up to 58% of manager-subordinate relationships and 65.5% of PhD advisor-advisee relationships.
