STEP 1: Prepare the Cardboard Tracing

1. Positioning: Place the cardboard tracing on a flat surface with bolt heads facing up.
2. Pegged Brackets: Ensure pegs hook over the well's lip, leaving space equal to the lip width between the line and bracket peg. Tighten bolts (Figure 9).
3. Flat Brackets: Remove pegs using a 3/8 inch wrench for wells without lip hooks.
4. Adjustable Backstops: If back of grate exceeds 3/4 inch from cardboard rear edge, install adjustable backstops by threading nuts partway up provided bolts.

STEP 2: Position the Grate on the Opening

1. Check Fit: Ensure all nuts are tightened and place Adjust-A-Grate on well with bolt heads facing up.
2. Optional Products: If installing a Window Well Escape Ladder or Quick Release Security Kit, remove grate first (see security kit instructions). Visit grate.com for more information.

STEP 3: Install Brackets

1. Pegged Brackets: Pivot each bracket out across the drawn line at a 90-degree angle, leaving space equal to well lip width between the line and peg.
2. Flat Brackets: Reposition grate on cardboard tracing after removing pegs. If backstop installation is needed, follow instructions above.

Important Notes

- Ensure "A" supports are wide enough to encompass loop ends through all slots and spaced more than two inches apart.
- If front of well is too narrow for grate adjustment, remove both “B” supports.
