Die Umrüstung von "altem" Funkgerät auf "neues" Funkgerät in Luftfahrzeugen ist individuell verschieden und erfordert eine administrative Abwicklung. Es gibt keine pauschale Aussage, nach welcher Rechtsgrundlage die Umrüstung durchzuführen und freizugeben ist. Die EU-Verordnung 1321/2014 Teil M und die LuftGerPV müssen beachtet werden. Drei Beispiele für Umrüstungen werden genannt:

1. Umrüstung von ATR500 auf KRT2 in einer ASG 29E, die als "Pilot Owner Maintenance" durchgeführt werden kann.
2. Umrüstung von FSG40 auf Becker AR 6201 in einer ASK 16, die nach der TM 02-2008 Ausgabe II der Firma Schleicher durchgeführt werden kann.
3. Umrüstung von FSG 16 auf ATR833 in einem Pilatus B4, die nur nach CS-STAN durchgeführt werden kann.

In allen Fällen müssen die Änderungen dokumentiert und vor dem nächsten Flug freigegeben werden. Es ist auch wichtig, das Thema Wägung zu beachten und die Änderung der Genehmigung der Luftfunkstelle bei den zuständigen Stellen zu beantragen. Das Ausrüstungsverzeichnis ist zu korrigieren und das IHP muss revidiert werden. Bei administrativen Fragen kann die CAMO oder der CFS helfen.
