Summary

The Scout is a miniature hand-held frequency counter that measures VHF and UHF transmitters and signal sources, automatically capturing and storing up to 400 frequencies. It has a serial interface conforming to the Icom CI-V interface standard, allowing connection to a computer for logging and analysis, and to a scanning receiver for real-time monitoring. The interface is asynchronous, half-duplex, and TTL, with a data rate of 9600 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit. The Scout has a unique address selected by two jumpers, and communicates with a computer using commands and responses in hexadecimal notation. Eight commands are recognized, including reading frequency, signal strength, identification, gate setting, and memory, as well as writing gate setting and clearing memory.
