Summary

The evaluation of teachers by students is a common practice in many educational institutes, but there is a lack of research on students' perspectives on this issue. This study focuses on middle school students' views on evaluating teachers in an international school environment in the Netherlands. The students, aged 11-12, were part of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. They were interviewed about their feelings on evaluating teachers, the factors they considered important, and whether evaluations improved their learning. The findings show that students have varied perspectives, with most feeling uncomfortable evaluating teachers, but believing that evaluations play a positive role in improving learning. Students emphasized the importance of teachers' self-regulation skills, organization, inclusivity, and kindness. They also believed that evaluations helped them be more observant and reflective of teaching and learning. The study highlights the need to include students' perspectives in the development of teacher evaluation processes.
