Siderophile elements in brecciated lunar meteorites have moderately high levels compared to terrestrial abundances, with Ni and Ir concentrations consistent with mixtures of indigenous lunar material and ordinary or CM chondrites. However, some meteorites have higher Ni/Ir ratios, suggesting a contribution from iron meteorites. The Apollo 16 regolith has a unique composition, with about half of its Ir contributed by chondritic micro- and macrometeorites and the other half by ancient, mafic, metal-rich impact-melt breccias. Some lunar meteorites, such as NWA 4936 and pairs, are similar in composition to Apollo 16 soil and likely originate from the same region. The data suggest that iron meteorites contribute more to the siderophile-element budget of lunar surface materials than their relative abundance among modern falls. On average, Ni and Ir concentrations in feldspathic lunar meteorites are about 57% and 72% those of Apollo 16 soils, respectively.
