Summary

The San Francisco Grocery Store, Drug Store, Restaurant, and On-Demand Delivery Service Worker Protections Ordinance requires covered businesses to implement specified health and safety measures for workers to slow the spread of COVID-19. The Ordinance took effect on April 26, 2021, and will expire on April 25, 2023, or upon termination of the local health emergency. Covered businesses include grocery stores, drug stores, restaurants, and on-demand delivery services that operate within San Francisco's geographic boundaries. The Ordinance covers any worker who performs at least two hours of work within San Francisco for a covered business, regardless of employment status or immigration status. Covered businesses must provide workers with personal protective equipment, social distancing protocols, and sanitation supplies, and must compensate workers for time spent on sanitation activities. The Ordinance also requires covered businesses to follow scheduling protocols and approve worker requests to cancel scheduled work when reasonably feasible.
