Summary

Technology and innovation are crucial for growth and sustainable development in Africa, yet the continent ranks low in the Global Innovation Index (GII), with the highest ranked countries, Mauritius, South Africa, Tunisia, and Kenya, placed 52nd, 60th, 65th, and 86th respectively. Despite efforts to enhance innovation and technology, such as Remitta, M-Pesa, and Young Inventors Summer Camps, many innovative products created by Africans are not adequately commercialized, with less than 1% being developed, due to poor technology and innovation management and lack of funding. This research aims to investigate the factors responsible for Africa's low GII and recommend ways to enhance it, presenting the Innovation and Technology Transformational Model as a tool to improve Africa's innovation and technology capacities for growth and sustainable development.
