Summary

The study examined the effects of pomegranate seed oil (PSO) supplementation combined with resistance exercise on insulin resistance and lipid profile in non-athletic men. Fourteen non-athletic males were divided into two groups: Exercise+Supplementation (n=7) and Exercise+Placebo (n=7). Both groups performed resistance training for 4 weeks, and the experimental group consumed 2 capsules of PSO (400 mg) daily. The results showed that while the average concentration of HDL-C in the Supplement+Exercise group was significantly increased compared to pre-test, there was no significant increase compared to the Placebo+Exercise group. There were no significant changes in total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C, glucose, fasting insulin, and insulin resistance between and within groups. The study concluded that 4 weeks of resistance training followed by PSO supplementation had no significant effect on lipid profiles and insulin resistance in healthy non-athlete men, except for an increase in HDL-C.
