No era normal que tantas mujeres rodearan a Jesús, ya que en la época la mujer no tenía un lugar en la vida pública y estaba sometida a las costumbres y prohibiciones de la Ley. Sin embargo, la actitud y enseñanzas de Jesús otorgaban a la mujer una dignidad que contrastaba con las costumbres del momento, permitiéndoles participar en su seguimiento y desempeñar una labor de diaconía, de servicio. Jesús tenía seguidoras, como Marta y María, y un grupo de mujeres que le acompañaban en la predicación del Reino, como María Magdalena, Juana y Susana, quienes les asistían con sus bienes. Esto muestra una actitud abierta y respetuosa hacia la mujer, que se refleja en sus enseñanzas y acciones.
