Summary

John Singer Sargent created a sketchbook called "Splendid Mountain" in 1870 at the age of 14 during a summer trip to the Swiss Oberland with his family. The sketchbook contains 47 watercolor, graphite, and black-crayon views, as well as 14 related landscape and portrait drawings.
