Summary

Researchers used multiple monitoring techniques to study visitor load, distribution, and characteristics in the Kasprowy Wierch area of Tatra National Park. Between June and September 2014, they collected data using automatic counting, manual counting, on-site interviews, GPS-tracking, and registry of cable car tickets and national park entries. The results showed 292,493 visitors, with 80% using the cable car and 20% hiking trails. The average daily visitor number was 3,179, with a maximum of over 7,000 in August. The most heavily used path segments were near the upper cable car station, with visitor load 5-10 times higher than other trails. The simultaneous use of multiple monitoring techniques provided a comprehensive understanding of tourist behavior, which can inform management of the national park and further investigation of environmental and social impacts.
