Summary

Researchers at Instituto Superior Técnico developed the STAV-2D shallow-water model for simulating strong transient flows in complex geometries, which has been validated with theoretical solutions and laboratory experiments. The model has been redesigned using a modern Object-Oriented parallel framework for heterogeneous computations in CPUs and GPUs, allowing for distributed and heterogeneous simulations. The new implementation provides inter-node and intra-node parallelism, enabling faster than real-time simulations for high resolutions in large scaled problems, effectively bridging the gap between detailed and timely simulation results.
