Lake Amory was surveyed on multiple dates in 2008, with observations and recommendations including:
Hydrilla was observed adjacent to the shore, but its growth was stressed and limited by native submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) and grass carp.
Native SAV, such as bladderwort, bacopa, coontail, and southern naiad, were competing with hydrilla.
The aquatic grass Maidencane was expanding, partly due to the monthly maintenance program spraying exotic torpedo grass.
Grass carp were not observed, but the present population should be able to control hydrilla growth.
The lake's dark water color prevented hydrilla from establishing in deeper areas.
Native plants like lake rush, pickerelweed, and southern water grass were expanding, while dog fennel and torpedo grass were being controlled by herbicide applications.
Triploid grass carp were released to control southern naiad and hydrilla, and were found to be effective in reducing hydrilla growth.
The MSBU aquatic plant contractor was keeping targeted emergent aquatic plants under control, and native emergent aquatic plants were doing well and expanding.
