Summary

On January 13, 2009, a survey of Lake Tuskawilla found all submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) reduced, including hydrilla, muskgrass, and southern naiad, with most hydrilla showing last year's stems and few unhealthy new growth buds, indicating the July 7, 2008 herbicide treatment was still effective. Native SAV is expected to expand in spring, aided by triploid grass carp, while lilies and other plants showed no additional Sonar damage. A surface algal bloom was noted, likely due to released nutrients from the hydrilla treatment, and "jelly" like masses of bryozoans were observed in the water and on vegetation.
