Gia Avalishvili and Mariam Avalishvili investigate the approximation of a nonclassical model for thermoelastic bars by one-dimensional problems. They consider a three-dimensional initial-boundary value problem for a thermoelastic bar with variable rectangular cross-section and construct a hierarchy of one-dimensional problems in Sobolev spaces. The authors prove the convergence of the sequence of vector-functions restored from the solutions of the one-dimensional problems to the solution of the original three-dimensional problem and estimate the error of approximation under additional conditions. The nonclassical dynamic linear three-dimensional model of stress-strain state of thermoelastic body obtained by A. Green and K. Lindsay is used, and the variational formulation of the three-dimensional initial-boundary value problem is considered. The authors also investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions of the constructed one-dimensional problems in suitable spaces of vector-valued distributions with values in weighted Sobolev spaces.
