Summary

Researchers studied the mechanical behavior of additively manufactured Ti6Al4V lattice structures under static and dynamic conditions, focusing on energy absorption and failure modes. Two lattice structures with different designs were tested using quasi-static and dynamic-loading tests, and their behavior was simulated using a finite-element model with a Johnson-Cook material model. The results showed that the lattice structures exhibited different failure characteristics under static and dynamic conditions, and the simulations were able to reflect these characteristics but not the macroscopic response due to differences in volume fraction. The study aimed to provide new understanding of the dynamic behavior of these metamaterials and to rationalize the link between lattice design and performance under dynamic conditions.
