The study examined the impact of different primary tillage methods on the fertility of typical chernozem soil under soybean cultivation in Kursk, Russia. The methods included plowing with a soil sheet turnover (20-22 cm deep), combined tillage (disking + chisel, 20-22 cm deep), surface tillage (disking up to 8 cm), and direct sowing (No-till). The results showed that reducing tillage depth and transitioning to resource-saving methods increased the content of humus, total nitrogen, alkaline hydrolyzable nitrogen, mobile phosphorus, and exchangeable potassium in the soil. The study also found a differentiation of soil fertility by layers, with the accumulation of humus, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in the upper 0-10 cm layer, and a tendency towards soil acidification when using plowing and direct sowing. The use of boardless tillage methods (combined and surface) resulted in the accumulation of mineral nitrogen in the 0-20 cm layer, while minimization of tillage contributed to an increase in the content of mobile sodium in the soil. The study highlights the importance of considering the impact of tillage methods on soil fertility when developing resource-saving technologies for soybean cultivation.
